Verdict
Raw eggs carry Salmonella bacteria that can cause food poisoning in cats. Additionally, raw egg whites contain avidin, an enzyme that blocks biotin (vitamin B7) absorption. With regular raw egg feeding, this can lead to biotin deficiency affecting skin, coat, and neurological health. Fully cooked eggs are an excellent protein source for cats; raw eggs are not worth the risk.
Symptoms to watch for
- • vomiting
- • diarrhea
- • lethargy (Salmonella)
- • skin and coat problems (chronic biotin deficiency)
What to do
Cook eggs fully before feeding to cats. Scrambled or hard-boiled eggs with no seasoning are a great protein supplement. Never feed raw eggs regularly.
