Toxic — household bleach is a corrosive irritant, not a “tiny lick is fine” product.

Verdict
Sodium hypochlorite bleach burns mucous membranes. Cats walk through mop water or lick a splash, then drool and vomit. Mixing bleach with ammonia or acids creates chlorine gas, which is a lung emergency for everyone in the room. Dilute leftover mop water is still unpleasant; concentrate is worse.
Symptoms to watch for
- • drooling
- • vomiting
- • pawing at the mouth
- • coughing or breathing difficulty
What to do
Rinse the mouth and paws with water. Fresh air if fumes were involved. Call a vet if there is drooling, vomiting, or any breathing change. Never mix bleach with other cleaners.
