Verdict

Chrysanthemums contain pyrethrins and sesquiterpene lactones that cause GI upset and, in larger amounts, neurological symptoms. While rarely fatal, ingestion causes discomfort. Chrysanthemums are popular fall flowers and common in gardens and floral arrangements.

Symptoms to watch for

  • drooling
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • loss of coordination (in large amounts)
  • skin irritation

What to do

Contact your vet if your cat ate chrysanthemum. Remove from areas accessible to cats.
