Verdict

Cyclamen species contain cyclamen, a toxic saponin concentrated most heavily in the roots. Ingestion causes severe vomiting and diarrhea, which can be life-threatening in small cats or kittens due to dehydration. The roots are the most toxic part — cats digging in potting soil may access them.

  • severe vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • lethargy
  • dehydration
  • death (in severe cases)

What to do

Contact your vet if your cat ate cyclamen, especially the roots. Ensure potting soil is inaccessible to cats.
