Verdict

Like pothos, philodendrons contain calcium oxalate crystals that cause oral pain, swelling, and drooling. A very common houseplant. Rarely fatal but uncomfortable. Cats may chew on leaves.

Symptoms to watch for

  • oral pain
  • excessive drooling
  • swelling of mouth
  • vomiting

What to do

Rinse mouth, offer cold treats. Contact vet if symptoms are severe. Move plants out of reach.
