Verdict

Tulips contain tulipalin A, a glycoside that causes gastrointestinal irritation. The bulbs contain the highest concentration of toxins and are most dangerous. Ingestion causes drooling, vomiting, and diarrhea. While rarely fatal, severe cases can cause cardiac abnormalities. Tulips are common spring garden flowers.

  • abdominal pain
  • cardiac changes (severe cases)

What to do

Contact your vet if your cat ate tulip parts. The bulbs are most toxic. Keep cats away from tulip gardens.
