Verdict

Verdict

Apple flesh is safe for cats and provides fiber and vitamins. The seeds contain amygdalin (a cyanide-releasing compound) and must be removed. The core and stem should also be removed. Cats may or may not be interested in apple, but a small piece of flesh is harmless.

Symptoms to watch for

  • none from flesh
  • cyanide symptoms from seeds in large amounts

What to do

Always remove the core, seeds, and stem. Offer a small piece of flesh as an occasional treat.
