Raw Pork

Caution

Verdict

Avoid raw — risk of Trichinella and parasites.

Toxic principle: Trichinella
Source: ASPCA

Verdict

Raw or undercooked pork can harbor Trichinella spiralis (roundworm) and other parasites. Fully cooked, plain pork without seasonings is safe in small amounts. Processed pork products (bacon, ham) are too high in salt and fat for cats. Never feed raw pork.

Symptoms to watch for

  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • muscle pain (Trichinella)
  • lethargy

What to do

If your cat ate raw pork and develops symptoms, see your vet. Only feed fully cooked, unseasoned pork in small amounts.
