Yogurt
Caution
Verdict
Small amounts of plain yogurt may be OK — choose carefully.
Toxic principle: lactose

Verdict
Plain yogurt with live cultures contains probiotics that may benefit some cats' digestion. However, most adult cats are lactose intolerant, and yogurt still contains lactose. Flavored yogurts often contain xylitol, large amounts of sugar, or artificial sweeteners — all of which are dangerous. Greek-style plain yogurt with live cultures is the safest choice, and only in tiny amounts.
Symptoms to watch for
- • diarrhea
- • gas and bloating
- • vomiting (if lactose intolerant)
What to do
Feed only plain, unsweetened yogurt. Start with a very small amount (½ teaspoon) to test tolerance. Avoid all flavored, sweetened, or artificially sweetened varieties.
